Description

Demonstration circuit 496 is high power, high efficiency charger controller featuring the LTC4008.

This is a general-purpose programmable charger that works with any battery chemistry. The input voltage is 15V to 20V. The maximum charge current is 3A. The charger output voltage is programmed with a voltage divider.

The demonstration circuit comes with preset dividers to work with 3- and 4-Cell Li-Ion batteries. Test points and LED's are provided to monitor ICL, ACP, FAULT and FLAG status lines. An additional test point is used to allow monitoring of the charge current.

Two sets of battery connections are provided. The first set is for an industry standard 5-pin Smart Battery; the second is for hardwiring a custom battery pack (see Figure 1).

An onboard NTC thermistor is provided to demonstrate the LTC4008 thermistor features. A jumper (JP3) is provided  to allow the monitoring of a Smart Battery thermistor instead.
